Kabira Evangel interaction with Suture Priest

Asked by Argy 8 years ago

If the Opponent's Kabira Evangel enters the field naming white, and I have Suture Priest out, can I make my Opponent lose 1 life?

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Evangel doesn't give the player in question protection, and the Priest pings the player, so there's nothing in this example stopping you from hitting your opponent for 1.

Just a small correction: Priest does not ping players, it makes them lose one life, so even if the opponent played an Aegis of the Gods, they would not be protected from the "ping".

Ah I see. Kabira Evangel protects Allies but doesn't protect their Player.

Also I think what you're saying is that Aegis of the Gods won't protect players because Suture Priest has a trigger effect, so it's not seen as casting a spell on the Hexproof player.

Thanks for the answers and the interesting side notes!

Not exactly. The type of effect does not matter in the case of Aegis of the Gods. The only thing that matters is that Suture priest does not target and thus hexproof does nothing (notice the reminder text on Aegis of the gods, the keyword is target). Remember that spells and abilities only target if they expicity say target in their text (i.e. Grim Lavamancer vs Suture Priest).

Ah yes. I know about Hexproof and targeting.
