If I target Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero with Kaya the Inexorable's +1, will his triggered ability still work?

I'm playing a game right now where I have Gerrard, Weatherlight Hero and Kaya the Inexorable on the battlefield, and I'm wondering how Kaya's +1 and Gerrard's death trigger would interact. I'm guessing that the trigger from Kaya would resolve before Gerrard can exile himself, and therefore he would not return anything to the battlefield. (But I'm really hoping I'm wrong!)

You choose the order the abilities are placed on the stack. If returning to hand resolves first, he won't be in the graveyard to exile, so you'll just return all the creatures and artifacts to the battlefield. If you exile him first, he won't be in the graveyard to return to hand, so you'll just make a 1/1 spirit.

It is important to note that while both abilities remove him from the graveyard then do something else, neither require him to still be in the graveyard to do the second part.
