How does token generation effects work with Essence of the Wild?

Asked by kevint1999 9 years ago

So Essence of the Wild makes creatures entering the battlefield a copy of Essence of the Wild, which includes tokens.

Lets say that I have an Akroan Crusader out already, then I play my Essence of the Wild (so my Akroan Crusader doesn't change), and play a spell targeting Akroan Crusader. The token created will become a copy of Essence of the Wild, but will it also gain haste from Akroan Crusaders effect? The red 1/1 soldier creature token doesn't have haste written in its text box, which suggests it doesn't have haste and it is Akroan Crusaders effect that gives it haste. At least that's how I see it. Is this correct?

Token cards typically don't have haste written in their text box (for various reasons, including in the same set they sometimes want the same token to come with and without haste in different scenarios), but it is an ability of the token because Akroan Crusader says it is. If the token loses that ability by becoming a copy of Essence of the Wild, then it does not have haste.

The token would not have haste. Since the token generated is made with haste, it is considered an ability of the token(which it will lose).

If the card that made the token said make a 1/1 soldier token, That token gains haste. Then the token would still have haste as the card that generated the token gave it haste, instead of making a token with haste.
