How does Geist's trigger work with Dueling Grounds?

Asked by StealthyGunnar 8 years ago

I came across this card Dueling Grounds the other day at my local card shop, and I'm going to trade it to my friend who runs a Rafiq of the Many EDH deck.

However, one of our friends uses Geist of Saint Traft as his general.

How does Dueling Grounds work in conjunction with Geist of Saint Traft? What happens with the angel token?

To "attack" or "block" is to be declared as an attacker or blocker during the Declare Attackers or Declare Blockers Step of combat. Dueling Grounds and similar cards only affect the declaration of attackers and blockers. Declaring attackers and blockers are special actions taken by a player at the beginning of those steps. The Angel token created by Geist of Saint Traft is put onto the battlefield attacking without ever actually being declared as an attacker, so Dueling Grounds doesn't interfere with St. Traft's ability.
