How does Ensoul Artifact Work?

Asked by smackder 9 years ago

I think i already know the answer to this, but just to clarify. If i enchanted Ensoul Artifact onto a card like Chariot of Victory would my creature become a 5/5 with First Strike, Trample and Haste or just a 5/5?

The Chariot of Victory and any other equipment would just be a 5/5, as it is not equipped to anything. I am not sure if you can equip it to itself, but I doubt that you can.

It would just be a 5/5. The equipment would not be equipping anything, so it would not grant the equipped thing, nor itself, those abilities.

Also, a thing cannot equip itself. From the comp rules on that bit: 301.5c ...An Equipment cant equip itself....

Note that like other artifact-to-creature-effects such as Karn, Silver Golem , Ensoul Artifact does not change the abilities of the artifact. Equipment usually read "Equipped creature..." and, as a creature, are not able to be equipped, so nothing will gain the benefit.

On the other hand, something like Gruul Cluestone will still be able to tap for mana or be sacrificed, unless it is suffering from summoning sickness (such as if the Cluestone came into play this turn- when it became a creature doesn't matter).

I get what happens when you Ensoul Artifact gear it it falls off and become a 5/5 creature. But lets say I Ensoul Artifact Ornithopter then attach artifact gear on to the now 5/5 flying Ornithopter such as Cranial Plating do I now have a 7/5 flyer since there are technically 2 artifacts on the table or heck even a 6/5 because Cranial Plating is the only one that counts currently. But still have the ability to have a huge flyer? Or can I not attach the equpiment to this creature?
