How does buyback work on Capsize if creature leaves play, gains hexproof, shroud or circle of protection?

So I know capsize goes to the graveyard if its countered. So, I have Capsize in my hand, I target a targetable creature and the creature, either dies/exiles or gains one of the abilites listed on my question. I know it renders the creature an invalid target. Do I return Capsize to my hand?

Since all of Capsize's targets are illegal, it fizzles on resolution - which is effectively the same as if being countered. It doesn't go back to its owner's hand.
