How Do Multiple Mimic Vats Work

Asked by Ophilias13 9 years ago

So if there are two or more Mimic Vat in play, do they share the exiled creature?

Example: I have a Mimic Vat in play and my opponent's Engulfing Slagwurm dies. I decide I like it, so I exile it for future use. On my following turn, I play another Mimic Vat . Then I sacrifice a Pelakka Wurm for another ability. I decide that I like the Pelakka Wurm I just sacrificed, and would like to continue sacrificing it each turn. So I exile it with my newly played Mimic Vat , being sure to specify for clarity's sake that I choose to pass on the trigger of the first Mimic Vat and only exile it with the second trigger. Because the fates have a sense of humor, my opponent plays a Mimic Vat on his turn. In response I use my Doom Blade to kill his Chancellor of the Forge . He was rather fond of his Chancellor, and has a few creatures still to make more goblins so he exiles it with his Mimic Vat .

Now, in this scenario, if they do all share the exiled creature then it would be my understanding that any Mimic Vat after the first could be activated as soon as it was played and place a token on the field. And as each Mimic Vat exiled a new creature, that creature would now be the only creature that any of the 3 Mimic Vat could create a token of. Is this correct? I hope this is not an excessively long question and that someone can help me with an answer. Thanks. :-)

Mimic Vat has a linked triggered ability. This means that each mimic vat has a unique set of cards that it can copy. Each triggered ability resolves separately so you can choose which Mimic Vat exiles which card.

TL;DR- They don't share triggered abilities. Only cards exiles with a specific Mimic Vat can be copied with that Mimic Vat

Thanks. That perfectly answers my question and means that all my ideas still have some hope.

No the Mimic Vat s never share the exiled creature. Each Mimic Vat is imprinted with its own creature. Each Mimic Vat requires an imprinted card before it can create a token.

in your second paragraph, you state that you Doom Blade d the Chancellor of the Forge in response to the Mimic Vat being played. If that is the case, the vat is not in play yet when the chancellor dies, so he cannot imprint it on his vat.

I forgot to add what what happens when both of players have Mimic Vat out. If you both have one the triggers go on the stack in APNAP order and your opponent's trigger will resolve first, so he will have the first opportunity to exile it but if he chooses not to the you may exile it instead.
