Genesis Wave + X Cmc cards?

How does casting a Genesis Wave work when hitting cards like Hangarback Walker or Green Sun's Zenith

If a card with in the cost isn't being cast as a spell then X defaults to 0. In your example, Hangarback Walker has a converted mana cost of 0 and Genesis Wave will put it onto the battlefield with 0 counters. Green Sun's Zenith has a converted mana cost of 1, but Genesis Wave will just put it into the graveyard since it's not a permanent.
