Ferocious/Prowess interaction

Asked by IzzetLawrence 9 years ago

I have a question that involves the new card from Khans -Bloodfire Expert- however it is not registering when I try to link it so here is the card info:

Card Type: Creature

Creature Type: Efreet Monk

Power/Toughness: 3/1

Casting Cost: 2R

Card Text: Prowess (Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, this creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn.)

Also, the new Khans card Dragon Grip is not linking, so here is that cards info:

Card Type: Enchantment

Subtype: Aura

Casting Cost: 2R

Card Text: Ferocious - If you control a creature with power 4 or greater, you may cast Dragon Grip as though it had flash. (You may cast it any time you could cast an instant.)

Enchant creature

Enchanted creature gets +2/+0 and has first strike.

Say I have a Bloodfire Expert on the field and I am about to cast Icy Blast . Since it is a non-creature spell making my Bloodfire Expert get +1/+1 until end of turn, hence making it a 4 power creature, would Ferocious from Icy Blast trigger? Also I have the same question about Dragon Grip on Bloodfire Expert. Would the Flash occur from Dragon Grip?

  1. Yes. Ferocious only changes the effect of the card on resolution, meaning that when Icy Blast resolves, if you control a creature with power 4+ (which you would due to the Prowess trigger on Bloodfire Expert), the creatures you tapped would not untap during the next untap step.

  2. No. Flash is an ability that changes when you could cast a card. Prowess only triggers after the spell has been cast, meaning that the Bloodfire Expert would only get to 4 power after you cast Dragon Grip. If you don't control any other creatures with power 4+, Dragon Grip would have to be played at sorcery speed.

Note that ferocious is not a triggered ability. It's a static ability that, in this case, adds an effect to Icy Blast 's resolution. The condition is checked on resolution.
