If I cast Embercleave or another equipment card that says "when it enters battlefield attach to creature". Do I need to pay equip cost?

No, as a part of the enter the battlefield trigger it equips to a legal target creature you control. In the case of Embercleave be careful that your creature doesn't have protection from Red or have shroud from other equipment like Lightning Greaves
