Emrakul, the Promised End

Asked by indieinside 2 months ago

Emrakul, the Promised End is my commander. I get to play other people's cards. Can I cast their cards without providing a trigger? Example, Farseek... it doesn't say "you may". Can I still cast this card without digging? Or Spirit Mantle. Can I cast this without targeting a creature, letting the card resolving to no effect?

The answer for your two examples is different. The answer is actually going to vary from card to card, but there are a few general cases that most cards are going to fall into. I can't think of any other cases besides the two that you provided that may be unclear, but feel free to ask if there are any other cards that you need clarification on.

With effects that search hidden zones (like the library) for a card with a stated quality, you will have to search. However; you are not required to find a card so you can simply "fail to find" even if a card with the stated property is in that zone. This doesn't work for effects that search for just "a card" since there are provably cards in the zones.

Cards that target (like auras) require a target to be cast. You will be unable to cast them without choosing a target.
