Does Vorel of the Hull Clade help contribute to getting counters onto Simic Ascendancy?

Say I have Vorel of the Hull Clade, Simic Ascendancy, and creature like Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca with a +1/+1 counter on it on the battlefield. If I use Vorel of the Hull Clade's ability to double the counter on Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca, do I also put a growth counter on Simic Ascendancy?
I'm asking because Vorel of the Hull Clade says to double the counter(s) but im not sure if I'm "putting" new counters onto a card to trigger Simic Ascendancy or just increasing existing ones.
Wording on cards can make or break a possible combo and would like to be sure of this before it happens in a game.

yes this will allow you to add counter(s) to Simic Ascendancy. Doubling counters counts as "putting" new counters onto a card, and will count towards Simic Ascendancy.
