Does Plummet synergize with Mistfire Adept?
Asked by walrusfortoday 9 years ago
Mistfire Adept grants flying to target creature when a spell is cast. Plummet destroys target creature when it resolves. My confusion is at the illegal targeting aspect. Can I cast plummet to force the Adept's trigger or does there already have to be a flying creature when I cast it?

What if I have a creature with flying out already? For the sake of discussion I have Mistfire Adept and Storm Crow on my side. My opponent has a Grizzly Bears. Can I cast it and target the bears with the ability and the spell? Or am I forced to kill my crow?

I think you misunderstand what a targeting restriction is. Plummet can only target a creature with flying. If the creature you want to target doesn't have flying when you cast Plummet, then it isn't a legal target. It doesn't matter whether you control a creature with flying if the aim is to kill an opponent's creature.

Thanks a lot for helping me through this. I'll read up on the rules and make this combo into something legal and deadly, at least for casual.

Flying Carpet & Predator, Flagship were how we used to do tricks like this. They might be fine in Casual; just need to make sure you get a more recent printing of the Carpet, the older ones had some wording they were destroyed if the target went to the graveyard and it might confuse some people.

It won't work how you want it to.
Plummet can only target a creature with flying. If the creature doesn't have flying, it isn't a legal target for Plummet. Although Mistfire Adept's second triggered ability does give target creature flying, it does that long after you've chosen a target for Plummet.
