Does life gain interact with life loss?

Asked by PerfectDisguise 9 years ago

For instance, if I cast Sun's Bounty, then pay 4 life to draw cards from Well of Lost Dreams would I still get an angel from Angelic Accord?

Similarly, if I play Temple Garden untapped and lose 2 life, then cast Sun's Bounty in the same turn, do I still get the angel from Angelic Accord?

Life loss and life gain do not "cancel each other out" so to speak. Angelic Accord will just look to see if the total number of life gained in the previous turn is at least 4 and, if it is, it triggers. It doesn't care about the fact that some life was also lost.

So, to answer your question, Angelic Accord will trigger in both those scenarios.

TheRedMage's explanation is correct, however I think you may be confused as to how Well of Lost Dreams works and so I would like to clear that up. Well says "...you may pay , where X is..." This means that you pay mana for the chosen value of X. If it was life that you paid it would be "...you may pay X life, where X is..."

so to clarify, if I gain 4 life from Sun's Bounty I can pay up to 4 mana and draw that many cards from the well?
