Delney and Welcoming Vampire

Asked by Stalker93 4 months ago

Hey there.

I have a doubt regarding the interaction between Delney, Streetwise Lookout and Welcoming Vampire. If I have both cards in the battlefield and I play a creature with power 2 or less, do I draw one card or two cards? If I play another creature with power 2 or less this turn, does this trigger again or not? In case it does, do I draw one card or two cards?

Thank you.

To help make sure everyone understands what's going on in the question, it's best to give links for the card's involved. For cards already in the Tapped Out database, you can just put double square brackets around the card's name: Welcoming Vampire. For cards not in the database yet, you can provide a link to another place that has them: https://scryfall.com/card/mkm/12/delney-streetwise-lookout

The Vampire's ability will just trigger once and Delney won't be able to make it trigger an additional time. It also won't trigger again later in the same turn if another small creature enters the battlefield. This is due to the following rule:

603.2d An ability may state that a triggered ability triggers additional times. In this case, rather than simply determining that such an ability has triggered, determine how many times it should trigger, then that ability triggers that many times. An effect that states that an ability triggers additional times doesn’t invoke itself repeatedly and doesn’t apply to other effects that affect how many times an ability triggers.

The important part here is "determine how many times it should trigger". Since Welcoming Vampire specifically says it only triggers once per turn, the additional triggers from Delney's ability won't be applied.

I'm pretty sure tho we'll find other ways to break Delney's effect... this card looks potentially busted to me. If you want to draw a bunch of cards with it maybe pair it with Puresteel Paladin and a bunch of free/0cost equipment xD

Sorry for posting off-topic

Stalker93: An answer to your question has been up for a while. Since there don't seem to be any follow-ups or corrections that need to be made, I marked it as the "Accepted answer" so this topic can move out of the list of unanswered questions. In the future you can take care of this yourself using the "Mark as Answer" button on the response that you feel is the most helpful answer to your question.

I try to avoid selecting my own responses when I do this but in this case it was the only option.
