Coveted Jewel, dies before blockers declared

I have Caltrops and Death Pits of Rath, so if I attack my creature dies. Do I get my opponents Coveted Jewel? Or at this point, would the declare block step not happen, as my creature is no longer there to be blocked? Unfortunately, I feel it is the second option

From the rulings on Coveted Jewel:

Coveted Jewel’s last ability triggers after you declare blockers (or declare no blockers at all) if any attacking creatures are unblocked. It doesn’t matter if some attacking creatures were blocked.

So, Coveted Jewel would trigger after blockers are declared if there are unblocked attacking creatures. In your scenario all attacking creatures will die on the declare attackers step and there will therefore not be any unblocked attacking creatures. Your opponent will keep their Jewel.
