Can I trigger Chronozoa with Mimic Vat?

Asked by Techies 9 years ago

I am considering building a Chronozoa copying deck, and I want to know how the interactions work with these cards...Situation:Turn 5 : I exile a dead Chronozoa with Mimic Vat.Turn 6 : After my untap step before upkeep, I create a copy of Chronozoa with Mimic Vat triggered ability. After the token enters the battlefield I target it with Fate Transfer and move all the counters off of it (Assume Fate Transfer has another legal target). When my upkeep step begins I get two Chronozoa.

Here's the main question... since they are not the original token... would I still have to exile them at the end step?

There are quite a few wrong things with this paragraph:

  1. You cannot exile a dead creature with Mimic Vat, unless it has just died. By the way you have described, it seems the Chronozoa has been sitting in the yard for quite some time.

  2. There is no possibility to act between the untap and upkeep. Players get no priority during the untap step; there is no window to act between the two steps. The first time you get priority during any turn is after the "beginning of upkeep" triggers are put on the stack for the turn.

  3. Mimic Vat's triggered ability is its first one. Its second ability that creates copies is an activated one.

  4. You can do the Fate Transfer thing, but you cannot do it in between untap and upkeep, so you will get tokens at the beginning of your next upkeep.

  5. However, that would not happen since the Mimic Vat token would be exiled during your end step and would never enter the graveyard.

  6. Actually, if it were possible to do that, yes, you would get two tokens. Those tokens are not related in any way to the previous Chronozoa, so they would not be exiled at the end of turn.

I think that covers it.

Thanks for your reply, and the clarification on acting during Upkeep/Untap phases.

So if Chronozoa were imprinted on Mimic Vat, then I triggered the activated ability of Mimic Vat to spawn a token on the player-directly-before-me-in-turn-order's end step, would I then have the two Chronozoa tokens on my turn permanently?

yes, if you do everything you described during the player-directly-before-you-in-turn-order's end step, you would get 2 Chronozoa tokens that would not be exiled at the beginning of your upkeep.
