Can I sacrifice my artifact in response to Confusion in the Ranks trigger?

My opponent has Confusion in the Ranks. I cast Expedition Map. Confusion in the Ranks now wants us to exchange control of two artifacts (in his case, Lightning Greaves).

1) Can I sac my Map in response?

and

2) If I can, then there's no exchange of artifacts made, correct?

1) Yes you can respond to Ranks by sacrificing your Map.

2) Correct. Both artifacts would still have to be present for the exchange to take place. If Map has been sac-ed there can be no exchange.

You can of course sacrifice Expedition Map in response (the ability is a regular activated ability that you can activate whenever you could castz an instant), as long as you can pay the rest of the costs ( and ). After it's effect resolves, Confusion in the Ranks will resolve.

As for the exchange, those can only happen if both elements to be exchanged still exist. Since one of the artifacts has already left play, no exchange will happen.

701.9a. A spell or ability may instruct players to exchange something (for example, life totals or control of two permanents) as part of its resolution. When such a spell or ability resolves, if the entire exchange can't be completed, no part of the exchange occurs.
