Can I answer my phone?

Asked by koylucumert 1 year ago

lets say I have played Claire D'Loon, Joy Sculptor . afterwards, I played Mobile Clone on a creature, which then dies and goes to my graveyard. I then crack Elixir of Immortality, shuffling my phone into my library. afterwards, my phone rings. can I answer that phone? if so, do I have to shuffle my library afterwards? additional question: in the same scenario, after all of this I also played Form of the Approach of the Second Sun. when answering my phone, do I have to keep the cards between myself and my phone between myself and my phone (squeezed between my ear and my phone)?

Yes, but only if you can do it without looking at it or changing its position.

Players are only able to look at a card in a library if some rule or effect specifically allows them to, usually because they're searching the library or something caused cards in the library to be revealed. Likewise, they can only change the order of cards in a library if some rule or effect specifically allows it. For keeping the phone in the same position, under normal circumstances I think it would be reasonable to temporarily separate the cards above it and below it as long as it remains clear to everyone which set of cards is which and that they're all still one library.

Form of the Approach of the Second Sun requires you to balance the cards on your head. Holding them to your ear doesn't count.

Rhadamanthus: in all honesty, I wasnt even expecting an answer for this as I wrote it as a joke to show how ridiculous and risky non-silver bordered unsets could have been, although I highly appreciate the answer. I want to not mark as answered just yet because I want to have more people see this post (because I think its a hillarious circumstance) but I find your answer sufficient and if necessary I can mark as answer.

When I read the title I was expecting something about the electronic devices policy in the MTR but after reading the question I was actually kind of excited to try to figure out a "real" answer for such an odd situation.

I am noting down all of this and will follow these procedures if it ever comes up in the cube I'm building.

Sadly you never actually shuffle your phone into your library:

If a token under Claire's influence ends up in your hand or library, the token needs to be indistinguishable from the other cards in that zone. If you're using printed tokens, great! Make sure you're matching the sleeves of the other cards in that zone, if any. If the token is represented by another object, such as a body part, a phone, a cat, some food, or a toy, use a Magic card (preferably a token) as a stand-in.

In the future, please remember to hit the green "mark as answer" button to indicate your question has been answered. Since this matter has been resolved for several days without any follow-up questions, I have gone ahead and marked an answer on your behalf.

You know, it's silly but she could make Battle of Wits viable in EDH. You'd have to create 100+ tokens and get them all shuffled into your library, but as long as you are at or above the 200 card benchmark, you win.
