Blade of the Bloodchief and Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet
Asked by Bababad 7 years ago
Good morning,
Does Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet's secondary effect of exiling creatures make it impossible for him to gain +1/+1 counters from Blade of the Bloodchief from opponents' creatures?
Or is the exile a replacement effect once an opponent's creatures hit the graveyard?

To be completely clear, the replacement effect on Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet only affects non-token creatures. Blade of the Bloodchief triggers from both token and non-token creatures. Kalitas can, therefore, get the effect from the blade if token creatures die. He doesn't get the effect if non-token creatures would die.

Replacement effects replace the event in question. So when a nontoken creature your opponents control would die, it is instead exiled. It never dies and will not trigger Blade of the Bloodchief.
