Asceticism

Asked by Riv329 6 years ago

When playing Asceticism and I regenerate my opponents creature do I get to take control of that creature or would it stay under there control.

Regeneration has nothing to do with control. Control of the regenerated permanent does not change.

This is the rule explaining regeneration:

701.13a If the effect of a resolving spell or ability regenerates a permanent, it creates a replacement effect that protects the permanent the next time it would be destroyed this turn. In this case, "Regenerate [permanent]" means "The next time [permanent] would be destroyed this turn, instead remove all damage marked on it and tap it. If its an attacking or blocking creature, remove it from combat."

Nowhere does it say that control of the regenerated permanent changes, so it doesn't.

Thanks hyperlocke for the clarity. Seems some people just like to try and answer posts without any rulings. Sad.

Cicknage if you're referring to Epochalyptik's comment, he doesnt "need" to post a ruling. his answer was correct. and this wasn't even your question to begin with, so why do you care? whats even more sad is how you apparently only came here to ridicule how people answer the thread.

If the simpler answer is insufficient, anyone is welcome to ask for more detail or a citation. Sometimes, a rule reference is not necessary. Other times, people prefer one.
