As Foretold with commander tax...

Asked by UpperDeckerTaco 6 years ago

How does As Foretold work with commander tax? So if you have a 4 CMC commander, and it has gone back to the general/command zone 1 time, so it would theoretically take 6 mana to cast it next time. Does As Foretold need to have 6 counters on it to cast it for free, or if it has less counters on it, do I just end up paying the tax? Thank you in advance.

It would be helpfull to mention the answer here nonetheless. As Foretold can cast a spell with CMC equal or less to the number of time counters on it. A commander such as Atraxa, Praetors' Voice with a CMC of 4, will always have a CMC of 4.
The so called commander tax, paying an additional each time you want to recast your commander from the command zone after the first time, will NOT increase its CMC.

Now suppose your As Foretold has 4 time counters on it (or 8 for that matter) and you want to cast your commander for the 3rd time (2x commander tax). You can cast your commander Atraxa, Praetors' Voice without paying for its CMC (the total amount of mana in the top corner of the card). You will then however, need to pay additional costs, such as the commander tax. In this case that tax equals 2x , so Atraxa, Praetors' Voice cast with As Foretold's ability, will cost a total of mana.
