A Quick Combo Question

Asked by Ramz-E 9 years ago

If I had a Shield of the Avatar on a Hornet Nest , if I were to block say a 6/6 creature with it, would I be able to place the shields effect on the stack first, then the nest effect second?

Would this then give me 6 creatures so that the shield could in fact reduce the damage by 7? (6 tokens plus the nest itself)

No. Shield of the Avatar has a replacement effect that reduces the amount of damage that would be dealt to the equipped creature. It never goes on the stack it just modifies the amount of damage that would be done to Hornet Nest .

When the 6/6 goes to damage the Hornet Nest the Shield of the Avatar will reduce it to 5 damage. Then state based actions will be checked and Hornet Nest will die and then the triggered ability will go on the stack and make 5 1/1 death touch hornets.
