Yorions gone - what cards get ditched?

With the Yorion ban, its time to rein this brew back-in to 60 cards. Just keen to hear different ideas on what 13 cards you’d remove from this deck (i’m assuming 7 of the cuts will be lands).

Decklist here (ignore the deck description it’s old af)

Currently thinking of possibly just cutting-down on a bunch of cards, removing something like:

  • 4x Ephemerate
  • 1x Displacer
  • 1x Ertai
  • 1-of the swords (to sideboard)
  • 1x Thalia
  • 1x Solitude
  • 1x Skyclave

Makes 10… would still need 3 more cuts

Another option would be to just ditch the Stoneforge package. Its strong, but doesn’t particularly synergise with what the rest of the deck is doing.

What would each of you personally remove from this brew? Keen to hear many varied opinions before committing to a change.

Would it be possible to go for that 5 color companion and cut solitude and skyclave?

I don’t think the deck wants any replacement companion at this stage. I’m just looking to cut what’s here down to 60, removing the 13 least-useful nonland pieces.

Idk... when I look at the list I really love it.. then making cuts just turns it into another stone blade deck.... the ban kinda frustrates me... I hope your able to find better minds to keep this going.

I assume you want to keep it . While cutting either or would get this deck closer to the 60-card level, it also loses a couple of key interactions.

My rough suggestion is to cut the Stoneforge Mystic + Swords and Batterskull, one Ertai Resurrected, two Ephemerate, and I'm not quite sure from here, but that's ten cuts.

For the last three, and this is where I start guessing, cut whichever creatures are doing the least work. I'm going to shut my eyes and say Skyclave Apparition, but I'm far from sold on that. Maybe one Apparition, one Spell Queller, and a third Ephemerate, or one of the Thalia, Guardian of Thrabens?

Current thoughts are either to drop the Stoneforge package, or drop Thalia. So something like either:

  • -7x lands
  • -7x entire stoneforge package
  • -1x Ertai
  • -2x Ephemerate
  • -1x Displacer
  • -1x Solitude
  • -1x Thalia

Or

  • -7x lands
  • -1x sword (move to sideboard)
  • -1x Ertai
  • -4x Ephemerate
  • -1x Displacer
  • -2x Solitude
  • -4x Thalia

With option 2 i’ll prolly need to find room for both Thalia & a sword in the sideboard, which might be difficult. I think i’m personally more in-favour of option 1, though its a tough call, as losing Stoneforge does mean losing a bunch of power & lategame grind.

Either of these options also gut my 2cmc slot, which I’m still trying to work out how-big an issue that is.

There’s also a midway option of

  • -7x lands
  • -1x sword (move to sideboard)
  • -1x Stoneforge
  • -1x Ertai
  • -4x Ephemerate
  • -1x Displacer
  • -2x Solitude
  • -2x Thalia
  • -1x Apparition

Well, the best test is live play. I'm leaning toward your first option, but that's probably because it's the closest to mine and I'm biased. I'd be a little concerned about the consistency of the midway option.

It would be a good trick to run a "morphing" deck and move the full Stoneforge package to the sideboard and switch it in Game 2, but that kind of deck tends to be less resilient.

So, this is my current thinking for this list - basically moving Thalia to the sideboard, and trimming some cards i’d rather not see multiples of. Also ditching Ephemerate:

Land (23)

Creature (31)

Artifact (6)

Sideboard (15)
