What's your dream play?

This probably says more about me than I want it to, but one of my biggest in-game goals is to resolve Emergent Ultimatum finding Curse of the Cabal, Time Stretch, and Twincast in a one-on-one scenario. I've never quite hit that sweet spot, and I'll be the happiest person around when (if) I do.

Is there any play pattern or combo that you really want to pull off?

Best thing ever for me has to be casting Primal Might on my Phyrexian Obliterator and just watching the opponents boardstate melt. Done it loads of times in Modern, and it always feels like a great way to close out a game.

I'm easy, give me a Kazuul's Fury  Flip on a Colossification creature and I'm golden : )

I've had this super-clunky Kresh the Bloodbraided 60-card casual a long time ago before I even knew EDH existed. It basically was the 60-card version of a Kresh EDH deck, and in one game, I just went to magical christmas land where every single card lined up perfectly. This was just awesome.

I think the most recent one I'd like to make happen would be Crafty Cutpurse + Mystic Reflection + The Phasing of Zhalfir.

Casting Biorhythm to kill a control player.

Necrosis24 Anything that wins with phasing is just amazing : ) I like it!

Oh and one I've managed to do a few times in my lifegain deck is Selenia, Dark Angel + Sanguine Bond + Tainted Sigil It's nice because each part works well in the deck on it's own, and I don't want to run many copies of any of the three, so it's just every once in a blue moon that it comes together and those are the kind of crazy "I win" combos that I like.

I love seeing these wild scenarios I never would have thought of!

For me, it has to be Barren Glory, Oblivion Ring, Worldfire. I have it as a wincon in my storm deck. I've only pulled it off a few times, but it is so satifying :)

Squee_Spirit_Guide That is simply the most creative use of O-ring I've ever heard of : )

Pact of Negation on their turn 1 Sol Ring/Mana Crypt. I've only done this, twice. Feels really good. Die the hero, or live long enough to be the (Blue Player) villan.

I don't have a current dream play, besides sharing the same one as CoarselyRefined.

If anything, I think I played out a personal dream play already. Here's the basic beat:

  • I was playing my Alesha, Who Smiles at Death deck a couple years back.

  • I pitched a Master of Cruelties in my yard on someone's end step before my turn, using a Thrill of Possibility.

  • At start of my turn I immediately move to combat, using Alesha's ability to recur the Master of Cruelties.

  • In response to MoC entering the battlefield, I use Key to the City to pitch a basic land, and make MoC unblocked. It hits an opponent taking them down to 1 life.

  • I move to second main phase and cast a Goblin Bombardment, which I immediately use to sac the MoC, and throw the 1 damage at the player it just hit in combat.

The last two players proceeded to rightfully focus me and knock me out on their subsequent turns. It was worth it lol.

"In response to MoC entering the battlefield, I use Key to the City to pitch a basic land, and make MoC unblocked. It hits an opponent taking them down to 1 life." - Perhaps I am misunderstanding how things play out, but what trigger are you responding to, I don't see an "enter the battlefield" trigger/ability that you could respond to. Are you referencing when you have priority again, regardless of an ETB trigger?

Profet93, as I remembered it, once Master of Cruelties was on the battlefield tapped and attacking, I used Key of the City to make it unblockable, as no one had any removal to use on it.

This could have been the biggest misplay of all time. None of my friends at the time caught it as a potential misplay

That's actually a really cool combo with Alesha and Master of Cruelties I can't really wrap my head around how the attack step works with MOC's "attacks alone" and Alesha's need to be attacking to activate. It's an awesome interaction : ) it just makes me scratch my head. Would it need something like Ephemerate to take Alesha, Who Smiles at Death out of combat? Or does it just work because Master of Cruelties isn't initiating the attack?

Ha, either way, such a fun one : )

A combo I put together in a deck recently is AEther Charge + Rampaging Baloths + Traverse the Outlands. Six lands entering the battlefield, six 4/4 beast tokens, 24 damage (plus more if I have multiple copies out).

Niko9: Whenever a card mentions anything about attacking, it's basically shortened from "declared as attacker". So that MoC line seems perfectly fine and is simply hilarious.

Niko9 Alesha, Who Smiles at Death + Master of Cruelties is considered one of the "classics" in her suite of options.

  • Creatures that are recurred by Alesha are tapped and attacking when they return.

  • Since Master of Cruelties is already tapped and attacking because of the recursion from Alesha, it was never declared as an attacker, and thus gets around the "Must attack alone" clause.

Throw in some instant speed combat tricks to make MoC unblocked, or to remove blockers and you are in for a silly time. Maybe not so much for whoever MoC hits.

lespaul977 That's an awesome one! It's so, mathematically combo, like if lands equal beasts, and if beasts equals damage, then damage equals less players across from beasts plus lands.

Several times, I have resolved a Howl of the Horde after attacking, and then cast a See the Unwritten. Now generally speaking dropping 6 creatures for free off the top 24 cards isn't really going to do anything for you, especially since combat has already resolved. But if you build an ETB deck, that can become a finisher out of nowhere.
