New Saheeli Brew Ideas

Deck Help forum

So Yesterday I saw the card text of the new Saheeli planswalker and am curious what kind of deck she could be used in.

I am interested in building around her in a constructed format (not standard) but dont really know what the right direction would be... I doubt she has any viability for Modern but maybe there is something that can be done with her in Pioneer?

My first initial thoughts were cards like Ensoul Artifact and Shrapnel Blast for some artifact synergy... but currently am kinda struggling with a direction to take the deck into that makes the planswalker feel useful/wanted rather than her just being in the deck.

TL;DR

  • Does anyone have any deck ideas for the new Saheeli card?

Hmm, the first thing that jumps out is a synergy with Flux Channeler If you could, and this is very theoretical probably, but have flux channeler on the board, cast Saheeli, then Mishra's Bauble + Lotus Petal would take you to surviving ult. And if you could stack a few ults, things like Spare Supplies or maybe Golden Egg might become very good.

There's probably some kind of artifact storm you could build with her if you could find a way to blink Saheeli for multiple ults in one turn. I can't think of how to do it off the top of my head, but maybe. It could also work in Sram, Senior Edificer and Paradise Mantle decks where 0 cost equips would not only draw with Sram, but proliferate with Flux Channeler to ult Saheeli to reduce artifact costs, to play other equipment like free Shadowspear or even free Luxior, Giada's Gift that you could then equip to saheeli. But it's a lot of things in place, so I don't know, just throwing out ideas : )

Also, I would absolutely play Treasure Vault in any Saheeli build. Artifact lands are so strong.

Ha, I really have no idea, but the card does seem like it could do some really nice things : ) She looks like a versatile walker, and I like it. Chandra, Acolyte of Flame could also power up the loyalty on Saheeli.

Anyways, hope the deck comes out good! Seems like a really fun idea.

i agree... and Chandra, Acolyte of Flame has honestly always been my favorite chandra walker lol its amazing.... dont tempt me to throw in a Cavalcade of Calamity in here too lol

i was disappointed with Flux Channeler being NONCREATURE spells.... because i thought that was amazing untill i realized that (at least in this current workup) my artifacts are creatures too lol....

Ha, yep I agree on Chandra. There may be more powerful walkers, but she does 3 really useful and unique things, and I definitely have decks that can use each mode depending on the board, so she's almost always the card you want to draw.

Honestly, I've never found a home for Flux Channeler but I keep trying : ) Just being a creature in your noncreature deck makes it tough. I just feel like there has to be a way to break it with walkers and cherrios, but I haven't wrapped my head around how to do it yet.

I also wonder if Saheeli could work with a Emry, Lurker of the Loch build. I used to have a Emry deck that used recurring Aether Spellbomb to great effect, and you could use that spellbomb as a Saheeli target too.

Or, there is also Curiosity effects. Thopter Spy Network might be really nice with Saheeli's minus ability.

Ha, I feel like there are a lot of options, and they all seem pretty decent : )

Not to poop on the parade, but this walker feels incredibly weak/bland, regardless of format, and i’m not sure it’s a particularly practical card to build around. It just feels to me like there’re better options available to achieve similar goals in each format.

  • Being a walker that costs 4-mana is already a dubious position to be in.

  • The +1 is a pretty generic “draw a card” with needless extra steps.

  • The -2 is an effect most White (or Wx) walkers can replicate, so isn’t really anything new, although it is pretty uncommon in this colour-pairing. The big issue is that UR decks generally don’t have any particularly good cards to make use of miscellaneous tokens.

  • the ult is neither anything to warrant trying to build around, or write-home-about.

My big concern is this walker is largely doing things that white cards just do better. It’s also just not particularly efficient compared to any other relevant planeswalker or enchantment.

Yeah I cant really argue any of your points wallisface... I honestly just like Saheeli in general.

In the same way I like Narset of the Ancient Way or Serra the Benevolent; I just have a deck building fetish around some planswalkers for fun and just try to build around them as best as possible.

It's kinda like building a tribal deck to me, it's just fun to build around a planswalkers abilities and the more synergy the abilities have with the deck the more I'm all about it.

Almost all of my Magic is played casually and only recently have I made my way back to the LGS; I may be foolish for the decks that I bring but I am not delusional/salty when I lose... my goal is to just brew and not feel completely overwhelmed by the competition and if I squeak by with a best of 3 win or more then I feel like I won it all.

I do agree that it's not a very competitive card, but at the same time, that also kind of makes it more fun to brew. If Saheeli was good enough for the competitive meta, then there'd probably be no need to throw around ideas : )

And, Icbrgr I had to laugh a little because I also built both Serra the Benevolent and Narset of the Ancient Way We are so on the same wavelength : )
