Fool, this isn't even my FINAL FORM!!!

Commander Deck Help forum

Over the past three years I have been slowly brewing, playing, and tweaking a cEDH-ish Yawgmoth, Thran Physician deck with a pre-Modern twist. I'm quite happy with what it's grown into, but now I'm looking into what would be the last few changes required to reach it's maximally calibrated "final form". I use the term "final form" because there is ultimately only a finite number of pre-8ED & cards to sort through.

First off, I plan on buying a Strip Mine— because reasons.. I also plan on effectively doubling the dollar value of the deck with an Imperial Seal— to flush out the last of the unconditional Tutors..

The other three that I am strongly considering are Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed, Wasteland, and a Corpse Harvester. Would these add or take away from the competitive value of this deck?

Is there anything else that I am missing?

There are a couple of other thoughts that I have, but I wanted to start off the conversation with this...

What is the purpose of one eyed, to bring back a single black card? Unless you can abuse it or it has a specific purpose, a 4 mana e-wit for a black card isn't usually that beneficial in a deck like yours.

Profet93: Sorry for taking forever to reply. You're absolutely right, and way you state it puts it I into perfect perspective: a 4-mana Eternal Witness. I was just trying to max-out the "non-budget" side of things, but what you said was enough to lead me away from Xiahou (for this deck anyway)..

What do you think about the other cards I mentioned?

Wasteland is meta dependent and the other seems to slow and unimpactful

I was considering the Corpse Harvester because 3 of the 5 Undying creatures here is a Zombie... and more Ramp is always cool..

The way I saw it, Imperial Seal & Corpse Harvester would replace Read the Bones & Gray Merchant of Asphodel, respectively..

The only reason I'm not auto-including the Wasteland is because of running Cabal Coffers, Everglades, Lake of the Dead, Bubbling Muck, and Mutilate..

I understand, just dont think he's worth it. Not to mention slow, late stage ramp is hardly called ramp. The small zombie synergy doesn't seem to offset the negative aspects IMO.

Wasteland definitely packed a punch. My buddy's yawg deck included it to deal with my lands decks in a land heavy meta. Definitely depends on the meta. I would say try it out but if you have difficulty with producing black mana, then swap it out again.

Fair enough.. So does anything else off of my 'Maybeboard' fit, or is there something else that would be better?

At the moment I'm leaning towards Befoul, since I realized my deck is a little light on interaction..

It may seem insane trying to cut Gary, but I'm also trying to get the legimate pre-(8ED) count up to 80..

Given that black can interact with creatures, if you want to add more interaction, you can utilize so given your commander or add more interaction spells. If you go with the former, it would be more synergistic albeit more specific. If you go with the later, it would be less about "synergy" and more about having a broadness towards answers.

Ex: Adding in more token producers = more tokens to sac to commander = more draw + interaction --> But this only deals with creatures. If lands are truly an issue in the meta, then go wasteland as you previously wished.

If you were to add more interaction for artifacts + enchantments, depending on your meta, you might be served best. I would run a nev-disk > ambitions cost or the other version of it simply because in a yawgmoth deck, your commander should be providing you draw (along with removal) if set up correctly. But it depends on preferences budget and meta.

A general theme while crafting this deck has been the single-minded focus on assembling the Undying combo itself; which became even more pronounced after the Pre-Modern transformation. Basically anything that wasn't a part of the central combo was to be draw spells & tutors for assembling said combo. A part of this early-on was eliminating as many Humans from the list as possible, because they're total "nonbos" with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed. However, what you're suggesting actually has me reconsidering Sengir Autocrat. I had actually forgotten all about the Autocrat because I originally ran the Eternal Masters reprint.

From the sounds of it— for I get up to 4 chump blockers and/or sac fodder for Yawg-daddy. Sounds decent enough...

So here's what I thinking at this point:

As a final note, I don't have a particular "meta" to reference because the shops I go to are both fairly populated and random, multiplied by the fact that I don't get to play as often as I used to..
