Milestone and Maintenance —July 16, 2017

So, about a week ago, this list reached 300 upvotes! I wanted to make an update sooner, but I could not come up with a decent joke or something to justify the vanity :P

Regardless, I want to thank you all for the interest and support :D

Additionally, I made some adjustments to the description so it would be a tad clearer. I am not particularly good at making fancy descriptions, so I just elaborated in places.

Again, thank you.

Why would you name elf for those cards when you can name beeble instead?

A plurality of the non-Changeling creatures in this "deck" are elves, so it would be most statistically relevant to name Elf. But yeah, you do you :)

Perhaps I'm missing something, but how does Alpha Status work with Conspiracy? Conspiracy reads that cards out of play are the chosen type.

Basically, your enchanted creature will get +2/+2 for each other creature you control, since all your creatures will be the same creature type. Alpha Status only cares about the creatures that are on the battlefield, so the rest of Conspiracy does not interact with it.

Oh I didn't see the last part of conspiracy, mb.

This is a pretty cool tool for people to have, thanks for putting it together! Definitely gave me some things to consider for my warrior tribal Unstoppable Warrior Tribal and human tribal United and Unyielding Deck decks! I'd appreciate any help you could give me on them!

An excellent resource. I'm a fan of tribal decks, so this is great. +1

How about Tribal Golem? With a changeling in play it becomes a 4/4 Flying, First Strike, Trample, Haste, with ": Regenerate Tribal Golem."

I had Tribal Golem in here for a while, but decided that since it does not work for any tribe, it should not be in the list.

What are your thoughts about cards that make 2 or more tokens that are a copy of target creature? You can choose your own creature to make creature tokens of whatever type you would like.

merrowMania says... #14

I don't think that they would fit the theme of the list. While they would make tokens of the preferred type, all they do is make tokens, which is a generic effect of Magic, rather than caring about the tribe.

So Volrath's Laboratory is okay, but Soul Foundry isnt?

March 5, 2017 3:28 p.m.

merrowMania says... #16

I think so. Volrath's Laboratory lets you choose the creature type, while Soul Foundry (though it makes creature tokens) makes copies of a 'random' creature. My reasoning for including the Laboratory is that it cares about creature types, and while this does not necessarily make it good in a tribal deck, it fits the theme of being tribal-relevant. Foundry has nothing to do with creature type. This does not mean it would not be good in a tribal deck, just that it does not need to be in a tribal deck to justify its inclusion as it is a powerful token maker.

While I see where you are coming from, I do not believe that Laboratory being on the list necessitates Foundry being there as well.

I encourage you to convince me otherwise should you so desire. Being wrong has been and always will be the highlight of my day.

Well, for those of us that use this resource when building our tribal decks, it would be nice to see cards that pump any chosen tribe, draw based on a chosen tribe, make tokens based on a certain tribe, etc., which Soul Foundry and other effects like it are very good at doing.

Have you considered the "anthem" effect cards? like Gaea's Anthem, Always Watching , or even Honor of the PureI have become reliant on these enchantments in most of my odd tribal decks. Lords are very important for aggressive tribal decks IMO. I would recommend somewhere between 10-12 lord\anthem effects in a standard 60 card deck.

merrowMania says... #20

Mastias - I had not considered adding "anthem" cards. However, while they may work in a tribal deck, they do not fit the theme of this list. In your example of an aggressive tribal deck, the reason one would include anthems would be to make one's creatures stronger, but at the cost of running fewer creatures. The most powerful thing about a lord is not that it just pumps the rest of the team but that it is also a threat. Anthems may be good, but they are similar to Auras, ie they do nothing on their own.

Curious as to why you're putting in multiple Cavern of Souls and Mutavaults. They're not basics, making it not legal play.

While it appears like a singleton format decklist, it is actually a deckbuilding resource for tribal decks. I got bored about two years ago and made it an almost functioning 'deck' so I could durdle around in the playtester.

Not sure if this counts. Xenograft is in the description but not the list.
