WAR updates —May 1, 2019

Finale of devastation is an amazing new addition that acts as a tutor and a wincon. Once you have infinite mana, it functions like craterhoof behemoth. Primal command is gone in favor of some raw draw with harmonize. If you prefer primal command, I think that’s fine, I personally find command to be a bit on the expensive side for its effect. Kraul harpooner is a nice way to deal with fliers in the midgame or with survival/eldritch/natural order, and also can be a high power creature to fuel selvala in the late game. Regal force comes in as a tutorable draw spell - it’s honestly not amazing, but I feel the deck wants some way to tutor draw. Ancient tomb has been in my list for a while, but somehow it hasn’t made it onto tappedout, so its here now.

Without hasty attackers from cutting the crossroads, I'm only seeing decking opponents with memory jar on the combo turn as a win. Am I missing any other win cons since update?

AztekSnowman we cut crossroads but added primal command. Command lets us shuffle our yard into library which gives you another easy loop for any card you want. What you would do is draw deck, cast beast within, bounce and replay eternal witness to get primal com back to hand, redraw beast within. You can loop any card like this. The general sequence for winning is beast within all permanents, fight every beast with somberwald stag. Then pass if they havent conceded

You just need ewit/skullwinder to loop cards. Primal command loop is just for memory jar. You can use primal commands second mode + somberwald stag in a loop to make a secondary beast within in case beast got exiled for some reason as well.

No, just crossroads can be an awkward draw early on. Skullwinder can give you the buyback on a gas spell.

For references sake could you please update the maybe board by removing the cards that are currently in the deck? I check back to this list every few months or so and I always do a double take every time I see cards that I have grown to love look like they were sidelined. Please and Thank you.

Thank you very much. Now I just have to actually update my paper version with the actual changes. I personally prefer keeping in the crossroads partially because I have somehow won games where I played it turn 1. Alternatively, I use the deck as my crusher of people who say "My deck is the best no one has beaten it in my friend group" or some similar variation and it is a much cleaner kill than the mill loop.

Could someone please explain to me how the Memory Jar Primal Command Eternal Witness with infinite mana combo works? I think I'm missing something obvious but the way I see it Memory Jar will mill you out first since it draws 7 cards and you've already drawn your whole deck

Primal command first to shuffle graveyard into deck, then cast and crack memory jar to draw 7. Cast whatever you draw or pitch your hand by saccing a birds of paradise to greater good repeatedly. Use Ewit to rebuy primal command. Repeat. Each time, you will empty your hand and shuffle it back in so your library never shrinks but your opponent will end up with more cards in face-down exile. Just to be clear you almost never actually need to use this, as chances are you can just beast within all permanents or somberwald stag + primal command away all permanents.

johannart I've been liking Thousand-Year Elixir and it's way less risky than crossroads because it won't affect your opponents.

Why not replace stag with something like prey upon or pounce. I get that you can tutor for stag but how often does it come up that you waste a tutor on spot removal instead of a combo piece. You can still loop either of these the same way you would loop beast within. I don't play much competitive EDH so this is an honest question.

Wayward swordtooth has also been good for me because you can bounce him with temur and play all your lands in hand. I play him over sheltering ancient because, if you have a land in hand you end up with the same amount of mana on turn 3, but with ancient the opponent needs to have a creature out or he's gone next turn.

I'm also iffy on skullwinder as the backup to e wit. I don't want to return a counterspell so that my opponent can stop me from going off. I'd either try greenwarden as the second e wit or add in a scavenging ooze to get rid of graveyards before I started to loop with skullwinder.

Maybe top instead of sylvan library. Library only works during upkeep but I've found that when I'm desperate to find a combo piece is mid turn after I've used a draw spell. With top you can activate It, get that draw spell 3 cards down, draw It, play it, you then have top again to dig a little bit deeper.

Why no Krosan grip?

With elvish pioneer out what's wirewood symbiote in there? Just as another situational untapper?

I did not mean to write this much lol. I saw your decklist like a month ago and built it and it's just so good, everything in it fits so we'll and you can tell you put a lot of thought into it. Thank you so much for building such a cool deck.

Fightstag is fetchable which matters a lot. It also often triggers Selvala for a cantrip. Some people have tried prey upon with decent success but its usually in addition to stag and not a replacement.

Skullwinder is fairly safe since you get to choose the player. The deck is built for 4 player edh and there is generally always one player with nothing threatening in the bin. I recommend trying it and if it backfires too much, switch for greenwarden.

Krosan grip is generally considered too slow for full power cedh. Removing one thing should cost 1 mana. See Swords to Plow, Natures Claim, Chain of Vapor as format staples. You often need to use those cards defensively for things like blowing up Tazris Food Chain or Sisays Paradox Engine or a Necromancy targeting Hulk. You generally can afford to hold 3 mana up.

Symbiote is an absolute all star and core to the deck. It sets up a lot of combos involving Temurcat/Curio + Symbiote + Q Ranger and such. Review the infinite mana section of thr primer and youll see it in there a lot.

hi and thanks for this deck. simple question. isnt it easier to just Walking Ballista everyone to death after you created mana. seems like a big hustle to loop/bounce stuff. I like the new changes and maybe i'm just missing a weakness of ballista somewhere

Kizrakas, Scroll Rack's purpose in the loop was to refill your library between Memory Jar activations. To do this with Primal Command, first cast any pump spells or removal you have to get at least 7 cards in your graveyard. Then you can shuffle those cards into your library with Primal Command. After this you can crack Memory Jar, recurr Memory Jar, cast it, and repeat.

Kizrakas, yes that is true. However we run more than enough tutors and pump to the point that it is not a worry. Also, you can use not only tutors and pump, but also removal. For example, playing a Sol Ring, using Nature's Claim on it, and repeating each loop iteration.

Ya - doesnt do anything until youve already basically won anyways. You want to close with cards that are already in your deck if you can.

I dont dislike crossroads that much. I like it a lot more than aetherflux anyway. Its a very risky card so you cant play it out early, but it can enable an unexpected win or sometimes continue comboing in the same turn after disruption.
