Deck looks great! I have one that's half done and this will be a great reference for whenever I get around to finishing it. (I have a lot going on right now and the constant stream of previews/products/crossovers is wearing on me) I originally went for a Ninjutsu theme, but I think I'm leaning more towards an ETB/LTB tokens theme. Stuff like Myriad, etc etc.

Since yours is tribal focused, thoughts on Cover of Darkness?

Thanks for stopping by KBK7101, I appreciate it. I definitely feel you on the preview fatigue lol. At the current rate, I don't think I'm really going to be buying anything new until Wilds of Eldraine. The last new deck I brewed & built was my Zimone and Dina deck back in March? I bought a handful of stuff from the LotR set for upgrades, but none of the new commanders really did much for me.

Ninjutsu builds are cool, just not my cup of tea from having played against them enough times in my local meta haha. Cover of Darkness is a cool card, and one I have a copy of. I definitely considered it for this build, but chose to leave it out for now since Dragons are already fairly evasive with Flying. It felt a bit redundant. If I did include another keyword anthem, I think I'd be more likely to include something like Goblin War Drums.

Neon lightspeed? Is that like going plaid?

Last_Laugh:

(looks up reference really quick) haha yeah, something kinda like that. It was more I was trying to find a name that could be like a City Pop/Japanese Jazz Fusion reference, given the Neon in Neon Dynasty, and neon lights/signs are often used in City Pop associated art. The current name feels more like a placeholder until I think of something I like better.

Since you are going the 'bigger creature' route, have you considered Mimic Vat? It can also act as a sort of emergency graveyard-hate as well..

Thank you for the suggestion Metroid_Hybrid, I had honestly overlooked Mimic Vat for this build. Could be some relevant tech since I have a decent amount of graveyard based decks in my local meta. I'll keep it on my radar and see what will get cut after I get some games in with the current iteration of the deck.

Crow_Umbra Nice deck, +1

Rhystic Study - Draw

Curious about the following cards...

Berserkers' Onslaught - Is double strike necessary to close out games? It appears winmore at first glance.

Reality Shift - Doesn't black have other removal that might work? Tragic Slip is one that comes to mind given all the creatures that will probably die in EDH, seems easy to trigger. Unless the exile clause is important due to GY decks as tragic slip gets around indestructible as well. Personally, I don't like giving an opponent a potential card as a substitute. How has it been playing for you?

Miscast - Seems weak late game, why not substitute in a different counterspell, more removal or draw?

Thanks for the suggestions Profet93, I appreciate them. My thoughts on the suggestions and some of your questions:

  • Rhystic Study - Definitely a great card. I don't play it because I don't currently own a copy, but have played against it numerous times in my local metas. It's not the most fun for me to experience, so I'd rather spare others the "Do you pay the ?". I think Mystic Remora puts in plenty of work in this regard. My primary play group tends to pay the more often than not, so I do acknowledge its usefulness as a tax piece.

  • Berserkers' Onslaught - Pretty understandable to feel that way at first glance. I've liked it as a means of getting extra tokens on those haste-y combat damage connections. I haven't really had any moments where I regretted playing it.

  • Tragic Slip - Great removal piece. I didn't initially consider it for this deck, but have used it in the past in more aristocrats focused builds. Lots of stuff dies, so it's not that hard to get the Morbid clause. I'll consider it as a potential swap.

  • Reality Shift - I frequently play against graveyard utilizing strats, so I like to utilize exile removal whenever I can manage it. So far, I haven't really had any issue with a significant threat under the Manifest. More often than not it's been a land or non-creature spell.

  • Miscast - I've had some past success with this counter in other decks. I think in those situations, my opponents either were already tapped out, or couldn't pay the for whatever reason. I added this after some of the earliest games with the deck, where I felt I needed a couple of more cheap counterspell options. Some other stuff I've considered for this slot: Familiar's Ruse, Mizzium Skin, Lazotep Plating, Change of Plans, or Seize the Spotlight

Thank you for your detailed explanation, I sincerely appreciate it. Regarding Miscast and it's potential considerations, Seize the Spotlight is probably the best given it allows you to more easily get in combat damage and potentially draw cards + ramp. However, Lazotep Plating is kind of more like a counterspell with wide utility. Both are more expensive than 1 mana of course.

No prob Profet93! I've used Seize the Spotlight before in my Anhelo, the Painter deck that eventually got recycled into this one. Seize the Spotlight definitely has that additional bit of upside, since my meta tends to skew a bit more aggro/go wide. I've used Lazotep Plating in another older deck, and liked the corner case protection of giving myself Hexproof on some occasions.

I'm waiting for the most recent Ixalan cards to hit the site, but a change that I am making to the deck is replacing Genasi Enforcers with Saheeli, the Sun's Brilliance. I've liked making token copies with her ability when I've play-tested so far.

This Commander is so awesome lol. I've been wanting to brew it myself, but I keep getting distracted.

Have you tested Genasi Enforcers, Blade of Selves or Elemental Mastery here?

Thanks for checking out the deck Azoth2099. I wanted to try a different route from going the Ninjutsu route, plus I have a Satoru and Yuriko decks in my meta lol.

I used to have Genasi Enforcers in the deck, but recently replaced it with Saheeli, the Sun's Brilliance. I figured the ceiling was higher. Genasi Enforcers didn't feel great or impactful beyond mid-game turns.

I think I have Elemental Mastery on the Considering list for my Moxfield version of the deck (I peeped you're also on Moxfield from your profile blurb lol).

I haven't used Blade of Selves, but have also had it recommended for my Isshin deck. The 6 total mana to cast & equip is kind of a buzz kill for me. I don't really use equipment much in my decks besides Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves, & Skullclamp.

Thank you for checking out the deck EchoSpice, I appreciate it.

I was on a big Japanese Jazz Fusion/City Pop kick this year. I'm pretty sure Casiopea were in my top 5 artists for my Spotify Wrapped lol. I listened to them pretty frequently while deck brewing, or working on other hobbies that required concentration.

Mint jams is an amazing album, id also recommend “A groovy thing” by Flamingosis, and “Hit vibes” by St. Pepsi. Both some of my favorite albums

Thanks for the recommendations EchoSpice, I'll have to check them out. Another album that was on rotation for me this year, although it's not fully available on Spotify, was Himiko Kikuchi's Flying Beagle, in particular, "Baby Talk".

I told myself I wasn't going to make any new decks for a while. But man does this make me want to draft a cheaper version for myself.

It doesn't seem that hard either, drop some of the pricey lands, no real keystones seem that pricey.

Thanks for checking out the deck Squidcod. Overall, the priciest cards in the deck are Terror of the Peaks, Goldspan Dragon, Purphoros, God of the Forge, Mana Drain, Cyclonic Rift, Jeska's Will, and the various Shocks and Fetches. The real "meat" of the deck isn't as expensive

You could definitely swap Cyc Rift with Evacuation or Wash Out. Mana Drain could probably get swapped with Familiar's Ruse for some additional utility of taking a creature back to hand. Alternatively, you could also change some of those pricier creature slots into creatures with Ninjutsu, if you wanted a bit of that.
