Land + Ramp Revisions —July 20, 2020

I wanted to revise the mana since the last few updates. I got a lot of games in with it, so here's what didn't work:

  • Wayfarer's Bauble in, Mana Vault out: This isn't the best mana vault deck. It may get value once, but taking a turn to untap it is bad news. I'm going with the consistency of bauble instead.

  • Solemn Simulacrum in, Boreas Charger out: After testing, I found boreas charger to be pretty wack. It isn't good fodder since it's only one creature, and it isn't good ramp since it's inconsistent. Late game, when we're able to kill it and get the most value out of it, we don't care about lands anymore. Early game, it's a slower Knight of the White Orchid. Solemn is more consistent.

  • Blinkmoth Nexus in, Shambling Vent out: I'm always disappointed when I see shambling vent. I'm not sure I've EVER activated it in the year+ I've been playing this deck. It does a great impression of Orzhov Guildgate, and I don't like taplands. However, I do like the idea of a utility land turning into sac fodder which is why I decided to include blinkmoth. It enters untapped, only costs 1 to activate, and has 1 toughness for Skullclamp. I considered Westvale Abbey  Flip, but I don't foresee using this effect multiple times in a game.

  • Reflecting Pool, Exotic Orchard, Swamp in, 3x Plains out: With blinkmoth in, I wanted to make sure we don't end up with too many colorless lands. Orchard and pool are here to smooth out our mana consistancy. Without boreas charger, there isn't reason to have a ton of plains. Knight of the White Orchid has three targets, and land tax has no reason to grab more than one plains.

Furthermore, I'm considering Austere Command. It has a ton of utility for a board wipe, but I'm not sure what I'd replace. I'll probably wait on this one.
