M15 update —July 24, 2014

Picked up some goodies from M15- namely Jace, the Living Guildpact and The Chain Veil. The chain veil will be super strong in here, and how could I not include the new Jace?

So, changes are now:

-1 Cruel Ultimatum, -1 Mindbreak Trap

+1 Jace, the Living Guildpact, +1 The Chain Veil.

I feel like Cruel Ultimatum wasn't getting its full use out of this deck, due to the low creature count. Mindbreak Trap is great as a free counter or a way to deal with those uncounterable spells, but I feel like it doesn't come up often enough to warrant a spot.

Please, any advice is welcome!

I will be that guy then to counteract your statement. Not removing any walkers? That is a sad sad thing to say dude, as 21 is a bit too too much for a Walker deck for EDH in 3 colors. Run about 15/16 walkers, otherwise you are really unbalancing your deck. I got a grixis build I am going to put online soon mind you I run it on an online program, but I cant run them all as I'd have too much for my deck otherwise.

Cards I would suggest looking into, or combos even.

Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth + Cabal Coffers for mana ramping. urborg is set to drop when M15 is public since it got a reprint now.

Inexorable Tide Helps your counters on the walkers get up there.

Black Sun's Zenith Good way to wipe out indestructible creatures since if you can do enough that they hit 0 for the turn they die

Cryptic Command is a staple counter for most decks since can counter bounce, counter draw, counter tap, etc.

Maybe a Thassa, God of the Sea to assist with scrying and knowing atleast the top draw if you want it or not and then get something random and hope better?

The rest is up to you really, but seriously rethink your philosophy of NOT cutting walkers as that could actually HURT your deck over anything else.

You make a good point. The only walkers that don't really do much are Chandra Pyromaster and Tibalt. I might end up cutting them, but the point isn't to be as powerful as humanly possible, it's to be as powerful as it can while working with a theme. If I was just looking for power, I'd be running a general other than Bolas.

Your suggestions are great! I have the Tolaria West in here, but no Urborg/ Coffers. I've always liked cryptic command, but it'll sit on the maybe board for a little bit until I can buy one. Black Sun is neat, but do you think Toxic Deluge is better? I've been toying with the idea of adding that. Inexorable Tide is another cool one, I even have a foil one which is cool. Thassa is interesting, but she'd only really be in there for the scry, her other abilities would see little use.

So, I'm thinking:

-1 Chandra Pyromaster

-1 Tibalt

+1 Inexorable Tide

+1 Nevinyrral's Disk

For now anyway.

Thanks for all the help, sorry for the long winded reply!

Trust me, Bolas is the BEST commander for Grixis Superfriends there is bar none. You could MAYBE think Crosis, the Purger but he doesn't do as good as Bolas does when it hits the field and overall effect.

The Disk, I am eh on as it destroys alot of your work as well. And I understand working within a theme, it's just trying to justify using them ALL really weakens the deck.

Might I suggest checking out Superfriends Of Nicol Bolas for some hints as to things you might wish to consider? Mind you this isn't my final build of it probably, but still

Alright, thanks for the link, the deck looks good and pretty similar to mine. I wish I could afford a Tabernacle.

I'll definitely get the new Jace and the Chain Veil when they come out.

I play on an online program hence why my deck is like it is. If I had to do off of real life stuff, sadly I wouldn't have the decks I do listed and theyd be ALOT worse.

it makes me so many of the happy that you have Tibalt in here. I'm giving this deck a +1 just because of that

How could I leave him out? I mean, I left Koth and Chandra Ablaze out because they're too narrow, but Tibalt has his uses. Running Yawgmoths Will and Crucible help offset the discard even.
