Time for an OS Upgrade —Sept. 7, 2018

It's been a while since I've done research on new cards for this deck (since I stopped playing standard really after Dragons of Tarkir.) So I did some research with my free time finally to keep my favorite deck fine and dandy with the latest gear!

The Changes:

I am officially droping Gargoyle Castle and replacing it with Mirrorpool which is just strictly better. why get a 3/4 flier when I can spend 1 less mana and copy ANY creature I have on the board and have the possibility of copying an instant or sorcery for cheaper?

Terramorphic Expanse is leaving the deck as well. It is being replaced with Drownyard Temple. I have enough self quick sacrificing lands in this deck, but not enough lands that I don't mind saccing regularly. With Drownyard Temple, I can treat it as straight up Grade A cannon fodder. It is easily my go-to sac land for Dust Bowl and my two etb sac land effects and other sac outlets since it's able to recur itself.

Fresh Meat has never had an opportunity to be played in this deck and I doubt it ever will. I think it's a great defense for this deck to repopulate in response to wipes, but by the time a wipe is even played, I usualy have the means to just repopulate anyway because of all the trigger possibilities and abundance of mana. I am replacing it with Nissa, Vastwood Seer  Flip because it provides needed Draw Speed, and if she's protected, I repopulate the field with land creatures.

Abundance is also being traded in for Nissa, Vital Force for even more appreciated draw power. I rarely end up playing abundance because by the time I do, it's unneeded or it's a dead card that doesn't serve as an answer. At least with Nissa I have options that can affect my board state on that same turn it's played.

Mana Reflection is being taken out. This kind of hurts to take out just because I personally love the card and it's expensive to boot, but I have found after playing the deck for 3 years now, that it becomes a dead card too frequently. It's great if I get it early enough, but I usually have Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger out because he's one of the baddies I cheat in most frequently. That alone is enough over half the time and is usually out early enough to be a tough thing to deal with. I'd also rather run into Caged Sun over Mana Reflection. Caged Sun and Vorinclex I feel and find to be more than enough in this deck to cover the loss of Mana Reflection. By the time I get it, typically I'm top decking (hence my draw power increase) and looking for answers, not more ramp. Therefore Mana Reflection is being replaced with the fantastic recurring bomb, Multani, Yavimaya's Avatar. With this deck, Multani is simply just a fantastic addition for the same price. He is an answer that I'd be more than happy to run into in my time of need over Mana Reflection.

Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury is also stepping down from the deck. I personally like the card, but it just doesn't fit. The main reason I was keeping her was for her possibility to have regular removal every couple turns more than anything. I never get her ult off for it to madder, and the 1/1's never make a difference. In reality, she's a bad 5 mana investment for a 1, maybe 2, time removal spell that takes time to trigger. She is being replaced with another Landfall bomb, Oran-Rief Hydra. I feel this card has great potential in this deck because land cycling and recurring is always a heavy theme and option. Landfall is always greatly welcomed in this deck. Playtesting will prove his worth over time, I'm sure.

Took one Forest out and put in Dryad Arbor. I have no idea why I wasn't running this in here.

I have an idea:

Maybe replace Gravity Well with Spidersilk Armor

Reason: Spidersilk can come out easier since the 2 colorless can be a bit easier if you use sol ring or the colorless lands. The other reason is that it effects only your creatures and gives them a way to deal with fliers, By making an opponents lose flying they may not attack at all, where as if you gain the way to stop them, but another person cannot block them...well they may go after them still.

That is a wonderful suggestion, thank you. I had no idea that card existed. Immediately making the change.
