shards-of-alara/stoic-angel.jpgStoic Angel, alara-reborn/finest-hour.jpgFinest Hour, and shards-of-alara/angelic-benediction.jpgAngelic Benediction equals creature lockdown - my friend pulls the same sh it on me all the time. He's got 4 alara-reborn/qasali-pridemage.jpgQasali Pridemages in his, and let me tell you, they are incredibly worth it. Check out shards-of-alara/sighted-caste-sorcerer.jpgSighted-Caste Sorcerer too. shards-of-alara/rafiq-of-the-many.jpgRafiq of the Many is almost over-kill, and costly besides - I think exalted can easily win without him.

okay...i will have to give it a try and see how it goes...what do you recommend taking out for the alara-reborn/qasali-pridemage.jpgQasali Pridemage

mattlohkamp says...
8:02 p.m. on June 23, 2009

hmmm... try alara-reborn/ethercaste-knight.jpgEthercaste Knight, shards-of-alara/guardians-of-akrasa.jpgGuardians of Akrasa, tenth-edition/quirion-dryad.jpgQuirion Dryad, and the single seventh-edition/counterspell.jpgCounterspell isn't doing you much good. The knights and guardians are easily analogous to the alara-reborn/qasali-pridemage.jpgQasali Pridemages and the dryad won't need counters if it's getting pumped by exalted.

As far as counterspell/control stuff goes, I'd almost consider doing something like 3 shards-of-alara/oblivion-ring.jpgOblivion Rings and 3 2010-core-set/negate.jpgNegates to keep you covered against artifacts and removal respectivly - 2010-core-set/negate.jpgNegate will likely be easier to cast early and a little more versatile than shards-of-alara/hindering-light.jpgHindering Light although I've got to admit that the card advantage of the latter is attractive.

I just have a question, I'm a noob and I play a noob bant deck and I was wondering why everyone playing bant puts shards-of-alara/bant-charm.jpgBant Charm into their deck. Thanks!

mattlohkamp says...

shards-of-alara/bant-charm.jpgBant Charm is really versitile - counterspell without the UU casting cost, artifact removal, or creature removal - all for GWU, which Bant decks ought to be able to easily produce

iroccoi says...

IMHO Bant charm is useful but more of a sideboard card than a standard. Just need to know WHEN you need it.

I love your deck it owns but I think you should take out your shards-of-alara/sigiled-paladin.jpgSigiled Paladin for either another alara-reborn/qasali-pridemage.jpgQasali Pridemage or shards-of-alara/akrasan-squire.jpgAkrasan Squire. and try to get another seaside citadel] in there those are awesome

komar says...
8:39 p.m. on September 7, 2009

i must agree...i've always wondered what i should replace my shards-of-alara/sigiled-paladin.jpgSigiled Paladin with now i know. Thank you!!!!!!!!

Does anyone think i should add a few alara-reborn/behemoth-sledge.jpgBehemoth Sledge

rockleemyhero says...
10:53 p.m. on September 7, 2009

I haven't tested my bant yet but i believe behemoth sledge would be good, ill let you know how mine goes when i get it lol

mattlohkamp says...

I've almost come to the conclusion that the answer to 'would a alara-reborn/behemoth-sledge.jpgBehemoth Sledge work in my deck' is almost always 'yes' - trample and lifelink are incredible abilities to bestow on their own, but to package them for cheap, throw in an additional +2/+2, and make it an equipment - it's a super good card. Life gain is nearly always useful, and giving a huge exalted creature trample can easily win the game for you.

thank you i'll have to get my hands on some and throw em in.

I was wondering if i should put in some alara-reborn/ardent-plea.jpgArdent Plea i really like the cascade ability. What do you think?

mattlohkamp says...
4:17 p.m. on October 18, 2009

how has alara-reborn/lorescale-coatl.jpgLorescale Coatl been working out for you in this? If I were going to pick one that doesn't look like it belongs, that'd be it. Your 3-cost cascade would always flip you 2010-core-set/honor-of-the-pure.jpgHonor of the Pure, 2010-core-set/ponder.jpgPonder, 2010-core-set/birds-of-paradise.jpgBirds of Paradise, alara-reborn/knotvine-paladin.jpgKnotvine Paladin, or conflux/noble-hierarch.jpgNoble Hierarch... does that sound worthwhile?

Actually, here's a though - -4 birds, +2 hierarch, and +2 shards-of-alara/rhox-war-monk.jpgRhox War Monk. They're not exalted, admittedly, but they're 3/4 lifelink for 3, which along with the alara-reborn/behemoth-sledge.jpgBehemoth Sledge will give your opponent something to either waste removal on or let you gain an obscene amount of life.

Should i maybe replace the alara-reborn/lorescale-coatl.jpgLorescale Coatl with shards-of-alara/sigiled-paladin.jpgSigiled Paladin a 2/2 first strike for 2 doesnt seem bad at all? And i like the idea of taking out the birds, i just need to get some more hierarchs.

i was definitely thinking the same thing in regards to the alara-reborn/lorescale-coatl.jpgLorescale Coatl. there are other cards that fit better with the deck, and i LOVE shards-of-alara/sigiled-paladin.jpgSigiled Paladin

Just a thought, replace alara-reborn/jenara-asura-of-war.jpgJenara, Asura of War with shards-of-alara/rhox-war-monk.jpgRhox War Monk. It is an even swap. Yes you lose a very awsome creature with flying but you pick up a very hard to kill lifelink smasher... not to mention if you have shards-of-alara/rafiq-of-the-many.jpgRafiq of the Many out plus all of the exalted bonus. I belive that in will make the deck better in the long run.

okay here it is. i think thats about all of the mods i needed. any more advice?

komar says...

would it be to my benefit to run zendikar/vines-of-vastwood.jpgVines of Vastwood?

mattlohkamp says...
7:36 p.m. on November 30, 2009

zendikar/vines-of-vastwood.jpgVines of Vastwood is pretty versatile - for some reason it's easy to underestimate, but I've seen people use it to duck out of removal and generally annoy with creatures that don't deserve to be nearly so resilient.

komar says...
12:23 a.m. on December 1, 2009

what should i take out for it?

rockleemyhero says...
12:59 a.m. on December 1, 2009

maybe a ponder and a negate? i dont know how you feel about it but i think negate is better than vines of vastwood and you shouldn't need anymore than 2 of the vines in your deck. negate will stop everything that vines will and also stops blightnings, day of judgment*, and other mass killing cards. the only benefit to vines is that you are protected from the turn and it stops creature abilities but i still think negate is more versitle

komar says...
2:58 a.m. on December 1, 2009

would this deck do alright against jund? thats why i was thinking vines because i need creature protection. but blightning would be bad too. i need cards in my hand so ur right, negate is much better.

mattlohkamp says...
10:40 p.m. on December 30, 2009

If something has protection from a colour, it becomes an illegal target for spells of that colour - but something like zendikar/day-of-judgment.jpgDay of Judgment or conflux/volcanic-fallout.jpgVolcanic Fallout doesn't pick targets, so no, protection from white won't save you.

You can, however, 2010-core-set/regenerate.jpgRegenerate, tenth-edition/boomerang.jpgBoomerang, seventh-edition/counterspell.jpgCounterspell, 2010-core-set/indestructibility.jpgIndestructibility, or similar.

komar says...
1:52 a.m. on December 31, 2009

okay. that helps me out. thats why i side boarded the zendikar/brave-the-elements.jpgBrave the Elements. what would be a good card to switch zendikar/brave-the-elements.jpgBrave the Elements for?

mattlohkamp says...
1:55 a.m. on December 31, 2009

could be good instead of 2010-core-set/harms-way.jpgHarm's Way or even conflux/path-to-exile.jpgPath to Exile, especially if you're playing versus some sort of control or burn deck that isn't using creatures.

komar says...

okay i will keep it in then. THANKS!
