Redifining a Tank —June 3, 2023

The tank "Class" was originally ment to be a damage sponge and thats it, but looking around there are a couple of options on red and white that are not only cheaper to put on the battlefield but might also accelerate the gameplay, so there are two options:

  1. Tanks now do damage a common trait for cards are redirect effects wich fling back the damage to a target (opponents or creatures) in combination with indestructible effects and damage based wraths like Blasphemous Act drain the opponents life really fast, this comes at a cost, now you need more cards to assemble the team so play testing is at hand.

  2. Tanks dont get damaged mainly a ability on cheap creatures preventing any excess damage not only gets arround defending incoming attacks but also makes for a really efficient blocker, even if you need to discard to make it a buffer. Here the trade off is, not making anything else with that damage, relying just on what a basilisk can offer and because most of the time the ability goes both ways the damage prevention removes the ability to make your tank another basilisk

Overall im taking the first one for the meantime as its not only a faster gameplan but also kinda makes it back when you have the ability to redirect the damage to any target, dealing with planeswalkers and other player's valuable creatures is something this deck rarely does directly and the strike team is dead focused on getting your opponets down to 0. So to make both on the same move, sounds really good to me.
