Endless Whispers and Homeward Path Stack?

Asked by Deathstroke2791 7 years ago

I sac a Phage the Untouchable. Because of Endless Whispers I get to choose an opponent to gain control of it. Since it they didn't cast it from their hand they lose. But if I tap Homeward Path to gain control of it, do they still lose? Or do I? Or both? I think it's just them, but I want to check.

Phage's ability is a triggered ability, meaning you can respond to it if you want. Abilities exist independent from the source, so if you activate Homeward Path's second ability, you will gain control of your Phage. It doesn't re-enter the battlefield in any way, so it won't trigger for you. The original ability you responded to is still on the stack, and still controlled by your unfortunate opponent, who will lose the game when it resolves.

Mean.

Thanks! I thought that was the way it worked. When it says "you lose the game" I just wanted to make sure I didn't become the "you" it was talking about.

Here's the deck for my question if you want to take a look. I just wanted to ask before I added Homeward Path to the decklist. It's a pretty interesting build.

Just remember to accept an answer to remove this from the unanswered queue, if all questions were answered! And good luck with your deck.

How do I remove it from the questions queue?
