New card frames coming soon?

The original card frames lasted for ten years, from Alpha in 1993 Lightning Bolt to Scourge in 2003 Goblin War Strike. The "modern" frames got eleven years, from 2003 (8th Edition) Shock to 2014 (Journey into Nyx) Magma Spray. The "new" frames have been used for about eight years, starting with M15 Lightning Strike. Will we see a new frame at or around 2025?

(I got slightly disoriented writing this, I still think of the thick-bottom frames as newfangled. Getting older, please send help.)

Awesome observation! It seems to make sense that we would see new frames in a few years maybe...

I think because of when I grew up and actively started playing I will always like the way the frames looked from 9th Edition-M14/Nyx...There was awhile there where I actually refused to get the Newest frames of cards in my decks because I HATED seeing the frames clash in my decks... especially with the Rares having the shiny sticker-thingy at the bottom (Blood Moon vs Blood Moon)

Eventually I came around to the new frames though... power creep made it impossible to even play casually without new cards (with the exception of maybe burn)... This time around hopefully I wont be so stubborn about it.

They certainly have plenty of frames to choose from.

As someone who has only been playing since Kaladesh, the current frames are the ones that feel the most like Magic to me. Then again, more and more cards these days have little to no borders at all, so...

Well, if you'd like to be absolutely technical, we got new frames in Dominaria when the Legendary frame became a thing. And now, with each new set, we get a specialized themed frame which started with Battle of Zendikar and the Expedition lands, not seen again until Amonkhet with their Egyptian themed "lottery cards". Kaladesh did it with their Inventions, and it's been an on-going theme since.

But if you mean non-speciality card frames, then sure. But the truth is, we have had new frames for several years now.

Is there really any reason to change the frames, again? The changes made in Eighth Edition and Magic 2015 were done for practical reasons, so I am not certain if it is necessary to change the frames, again, except for special cases, as has been done with nearly every set, now.

I mean, the counterfeiters are catching up/more or less have caught up with our most recent frame change (the addition of the foil stamp on rare/mythic cards with Magic 2015), so I don't see why they wouldn't be working on an update if they're really worried about it. I don't know if I've seen much concern about it from WOTC though. Maybe that issue grows with the price increases...

There are companies in China who have the exact same printing press and ink and can source the exact same card stock.

The only difference is it was not printed at a WOTC approved facility, such as the one down in Texas.

So. New frames? That's just a matter of a new ink design.
