Using Illusions of Grandeur

Asked by FatFreddiesCat 5 months ago

I have Muldrotha, the Gravetide as my commander. I have Illusions of Grandeur and Sundial of the Infinite in play. If I don't pay Illusions of Grandeur cumulative upkeep, can I use Sundial of the Infinite to end the turn before losing the 20 life? If so, does Illusions of Grandeur still go to the graveyard so I can cast it again with Muldrotha, the Gravetide?

From what I can tell from Gatherer, it looks like all abilities (including the triggered ability from Illusions of Grandeur's Leave the Battlefield trigger) would be exiled, but the card would already be in your graveyard (because it left the Battlefield, it had to go somewhere else), so it shouldn't be exiled (only spells on the stack would get exiled). Thus I think you'd also be able to cast Illusions again later.

The relevant part I found was:

9/22/2011 Ending the turn this way means the following things happen in order: 1) All spells and abilities on the stack are exiled. This includes spells and abilities that can't be countered. 2) All attacking and blocking creatures are removed from combat. 3) State-based actions are checked. No player gets priority, and no triggered abilities are put onto the stack. 4) The current phase and/or step ends. The game skips straight to the cleanup step. The cleanup step happens in its entirety.

Thanks. It's nice when one gets the answer they hope for.
