Planes and the stack

Asked by DarkMagician 3 years ago

So I was playing a game of Planechase and we wound up on the Mirrored Depths plane while a player controlled a Vexing Shusher which gave rise to the question of whether or not the static abilities of Planes use the stack. In short can you activate Vexing Shusher in response when casting a spell triggers Mirrored Depths ?

A plane's ability does use the stack. Mirrored Depths is a straightforward, to the book triggered ability, so the Vexing Shusher can be activated in response. You still flip a coin, though, in case that matters for anything.

technically, "static abilities" don't use the stack. they're just always active. it should also be noted that Mirrored Depths doesn't have "static ablities", it has triggered abilities. triggered abilities start with "when", "whenever", or "at". an example of a static ability would be something like Predatory Sliver .

Erza420 yeah I misspoke there but thanks for the clarification. Cheers.

legendofa that's what I thought but couldn't find a rule that spoke directly about the planes primary ability. Was easy to find a rule as towards the chaos ability though.

DarkMagician: The key thing to know is that a triggered ability always starts with one of the words "when", "whenever", or "at". Both of the abilities on Mirrored Depths are triggered abilities.
