Is Cast Down the best targeted destruction removal in Black?

I'm kinda curious as to why people use Doom Blade and Go for the Throat when Cast Down basically does the same thing but even better since there's no actual legendary creatures that are worth playing in Pauper. It basically hits everything while Doom Blade and Go for the Throat have restrictions that hold them back in certain matchups.

Yeah, by a lot. I have never run into any 2-mana black targeted removal other than Cast Down since it got printed.

How many lists are running Doom Blade?
Maybe Mystical Teaching but I don't believe they want a kill spell for 6, when they have access to better wipes etc.

Definitely. Cast Down is hands down the best removal in pauper imo*.
I'd actually find it more fun if it wasn't legal, am I the only one? I liked thinking "oh yes this is a mono deck, Victim of Night" or "Building a rakdos deck, better use Terminate" (*which actually could still be better than cast down if you have the right mana) or even "I can't get the right mana on curve, better use Doom Blade this time". I find it was better while deckbuilding, because you had more alternatives (off-topic: I think the same of Village Rites and Altar's Reap).
Either way, that's not a real problem. At least it kills that awful overused Gurmag Angler.

I almost never see Angler anymore. I actually miss it, made removal choices more interesting

That’s actually a really good point. There are a few UNcommon legends, but none at common.
Edit: I’m wrong there are a few older ones, but yeah pretty bad.
