Do you have at least seven friends who like mtg?

Do you have ten thousand dollars to spend to build a cube?

If you answered no to one or more of these questions let me talk to you about SQUARE!

To play square you need 100 nonland cards and 100 basic lands (20 of each) all sleeved up if you like but keep them seperate.

Make sure obviously that your cards are balanced between the colors. I recommend 14 of each mono color and 3 of each dual color. Do you but make sure it is balanced.

I have devised three ways to play this.

A) shuffle the nonland stack. Deal 3 cards to player 1, they choose one of those cards and give the other two cards to player 2. Player 2 then does this process until both players have 45 cards (should be 15 rounds). Build 40 card decks with the lands then fight. This is the closest to cube and will take the longest but is the least random. Also note that ten cards will not be dealt. Keep them face down and hidden.

B) shuffle the nonland stack then alternate dealing the top card to each player until they have 45 cards. Build a 40 card deck using the lands then fight. A lot more random than option A but a lot faster. This will feel more like sealed than cube.

C) this option is the fastest to setup and is absolutely chaotic insanity. Set up a stack for each basic land type inbetween the players 4 of each kind. You may play lands from these stacks as you will not be putting lands into any deck made this way.

Deal 21 cards from the top of the stack alternating one at a time to each player. Then fight. Utter chaos and insanity but you can't get color screwed.

What do you think comrades?

This is mostly made for 1v1 but I'm sure we could make this for up to 4 players. You would obviously have to adjust the numbers.

I planned on using powerful but inexpensive cards, but the sky is the limit for whatever you want to spend.

I definitely appreciate that you spent your time creating this, my current playgroup is only 2 players so I've been wondering how I could do a cube. Thanks mate!

Well now you got to post your list.

What would you say to bumping this up to 180 cards? That way no more than half of it would ever be out at the same time for two players? Plus, you'd be half way to a full cube.

180 total cards

24 of each color

6 of each dual color

Just a thought. I enjoy the absolute lunacy of the chaos.

Depends how much you want it to be different from cube

These seem like good ideas for doing cube with a smaller group of players.

Why only single color and dual color cards? (I have almost Zero cube experience).

Just to keep it simple. Tricolor makes things a lot harder

Here is the list I came up with.

2 of each color for multicolor and 16 of each mono color.

Reanimator, Auras and Stuff. No promises but its a start
