I know we have quite a diverse community on here, so I wanted to throw this out there in the event people haven't seen it yet.

And this bears an interesting question: Could this become an offshoot format?

Being able to partner up literally any two Commanders essentially makes deck building vastly more powerful and interactive and would definitely spawn untold new strategies and styles of play.

Technically this would fall under the Rule: 0 umbrella, but I wonder if it may one day become an official offshoot or addendum.

Then again, it all depends on your group. You may have friends and family that just say screw it, have 3 commanders if you really want. Whatever keeps the games spicy and exciting.

So!

Who are you going to partner up :)

I have been a long term believer that specific Commanders should automatically gain Partner, or at least Partners With.

Such as Gisa and Geralf, or Saffi and Hans

You know, this is exactly the kind of thing that I really like in magic. Not necessarily the format that this makes, but just wotc doing an event just because it's fun for players, that's something I haven't seen for a good bit : ) I could definitely build something fun out of what I've got laying around and have a good time with this.

That being said, I think it would make a terrible format, but a great event. Imagine somebody playing 5 color Heliod, Sun-Crowned and Walking Ballista combo that could hold up Fierce Guardianship and Force of Will to protect the combo. Or Yawgmoth, Thran Physician with an undying partner for a command zone combo.

I like that it's a fun event, it's a theme that just works great for me, and I don't know, I think it's kind of nice to see wotc saying to players, fun is playing the game, after so long of them saying, fun is buying the game.

I like this a whole lot for a short time or for an event a whole lot. Approached with fun and flavor in mind I really like it.

But I do think it would be too broken to make the permanent rule. There are too many two-card commander combo's out there or commanders that get way, way better with more colors available.

I think we’re all missing the MASSIVE duo of Joven and Chandler. Dream team finally assembled.

For a fun one, Jegantha, the Wellspring and Progenitus.

Or how about going with Sliver-geddon and running The First Sliver and Sliver Overlord.

Or, because Urza, Lord High Artificer really needs access to all five colors, run him with Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch

Or perhaps you're just an evil person and you run Sakashima the Impostor so you can get a second Grand Arbiter Augustin IV on the battlefield.

Another pairing for those who hate their friends would be Maralen of the Mornsong and Ob Nixilis, Unshackled.

If I had the money to get cards for a deck I could only play 3 or 4 times I would absolutely do Heartless Hidetsugu and Astarion, the Decadent. There's probably better one shot combos but having a tactical nuke like this in the command zone is a pretty good deterrent.

You can load up your command zone by partnering 2 "choose a background" commanders

Here is the WPN site explaining whats and hows of the event. I assumed that it was the link originally given, or else I would have provided it as soon as this thread opened. In the "how to run" section to stores it unfortunately says that won't work "Commanders that already have abilities like partner won’t let players have more than two commanders at this event, but we applaud their enthusiasm. Remember that the extra commander still counts toward the 100 cards in their deck."

And just for clarification, each of your commanders track commander damage separately.

So 8 combat damage from one and 15 from another is not lethal Commander damage, as neither have reached the 21 threshold.

I'm kind of thinking of building a WUBRG superfriends deck, running Jared Carthalion and The Peregrine Dynamo as an ultimate superfriends combo.

I get access to WUBRG, a steady stream of 3/3 bodies that turn into 8/8 bodies, and can activate a Planeswalker ability and copy it. I can't copy anything Jared does, but I can copy anyone else's.

It isn't a super powerful deck or broken by any means, but 5c friends sounds fun to me. Idk.

Lol I literally mocked up a list using Vrestin, Menoptra Leader and Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest to lead tribal insects earlier this year. The Calm Before The Swarm -Mazirek/Vrestin Insects for anyone interested.

One of my favourite decks that I run is Faldorn, Dread Wolf Herald, I'd love to see that pop off with Prosper, Tome-Bound. I think they'd be really fun partners, you get wolves and treasures with every card you play.

When I learned about this event, the first pair I thought of were Ezuri, Claw of Progress and Anim Pakal, Thousandth Moon. That is mainly due to how fast it can get out of hand.
