Why do I wanna make this deck?

I think prowess is cool, and it feels correct to make a prowess deck. I love spellslinging, and this combines it with a very basic attack plan, which I've not done all that much, but I think I can enjoy a lot.

How do I reach that goal/want?

Create an army of tokens and use blanket prowess effects to buff them up.

What do I need to do that?

I feel like this is by far the hardest question for this deck, since the deck needs a lot.

  1. An army of tokens
  2. A blanket prowess effect
  3. A number of spells to cast to get to 3+ prowess triggers (arbitrary number, but it sounds correct to attack with an army of 4/4s).

Getting the right balance for this seems complex. The deck needs enough cards that plop down tokens immediately, but some cards that create tokens on spellcast also seems good, especially since those can stay back and block the crackback.

Since you want to play about 3 cards just to trigger prowess, you have to make sure you have enough mana and cards for that. Mana is partially managed by having a lot of cheap spells and by just making sure there's enough ramp in the deck, but cards can be more complicated. Adding "draw on spellcast" cards sounds good, but I think you need to diversify and have some "draw at start of turn" effects as well, since those guarantee more cards.

Reasons for removal:

  • The deck has a bunch of cantrips it can do without. It needs other cards to function first.
  • Metallurgic Summonings is a bit expensive for the deck, and makes tokens with weird stats, making it (even) harder to do the damage math.
  • Niblis of Frost is a pet card, and since the deck doesn't work right now, it has to go.
  • Soulblade Djinn and Strongarm Monk are expensive blanket prowess effects, and I think the deck needs more token creators in comparison.
  • Shreds of Sanity sounds okay, but because it's net 0 cards in hand and requires another card that I can pitch, it doesn't feel quite right to play.
  • Reasons for adding:

  • Bident of Thassa is another test for more recuring card advantage, and Deep Analysis is more regular card advantage.
  • The deck needs some cards that just create tokens instantly.
  • Skyclave Relic, Spinning Wheel and Worn Powerstone is more ramp, since the deck can use more mana ramp.
