Huge Update!!! —April 3, 2024

I decided to update the list in a huge way! Some new additions, as well as a few lessons along the way. Really looking forward to seeing what anyone thinks about it.

SirChris39 thank you so much! I actually have an update for this deck coming soon, look forward to seeing Sword of Hearth and Home and Conqueror's Flail added to the list. This deck was put together using a lot of the cards I used in my Balan, wandering knight deck. I think Galea being 3 colors gives you a lot more options as far as ramp, card draw, and protection. Her ability is a pseudo card draw that gives you a discount on equip costs.

This looks fun. How is Halvar? the double strike is nice but I feel like the rest of his ability isn't very useful to you since you will only really be suiting up Galea. I would think that you would just prefer to use an equipment or an enchantment that can grant double strike. I assume that you arent playing the sword half very often since you have better protection options available. I have never seen the combo of bloodforged and galea be interpreted that way. Are you sure that this is how this works? holy shit thats a bomb.
I have a galea deck that I have been working very hard on lately. It's not finished but I would love it if you gave it a peak. Its the third try one. The main difference between mine is that I still run enchantments, and I have a lot of board wipes. I'm a little worried about getting gang banged by other peoples boards once I get Galea online.

I am going to buy Teferi's Protection right now. holy moly what a bomb.

meatymeatmagic it is a lot of fun, and expect a big update, I made a lot of subtle changes to the deck that make it better able to stay in the game. Halvar is great, in equipment mode (always cast from the top of the library) it's an impressive 2 cost equipment that provides a way to avoid commander tax if she dies. He's also a creature, something my deck is really hurting for. The double role makes him particularly useful in this deck.

I'm not sure how to interpret the interaction between Battle-axe and Galea. I've had judges evaluate it and the results are inconclusive. Even though the axe gains the ability, copying it probably doesn't give those copies any additional abilities not on the original card.

I have a lot of amazing enchantments, but the protection effects make them basically unplayable. I'm probably going to be taking most of the colored equipment out too.

I'm going to update my list with a lot of removal, but mostly just the single target kind. With Voltron decks the main thing to remember is that player removal is universal removal, make your Voltron big and hard to block, then kill your opponents lol.

I'll definitely take a look at your take on this great commander.

Holy cow, this deck looks like a blast to play! The synergy with Bloodforged Battle-Axe is incredible, great find.

I think you could and even should consider kicking Lightning Greaves. You have a high chance to have no creatured but Galea on the field, and if you then have her equipped with greaves, you will stumble into the problem of not being able to put new equipment on her. If you want another protection piece instead, Mask of Avacyn might be worth a look. If you're open for another non-equipment, Sensei's Divining Top is propably the best addition to make. You'll never have to stop at a non-equipment or aura on top of your library again.

Regarding your last comment over at Thantis: Most of my decks here are the actual paper versions, as well. So yeah, budget rocks ;)

seshiro_of_the_orochi it is really fun, but it does get targeted out pretty regularly. Yeah I'm in the process of replacing lightning Greaves, Belt of Giant Strength and probably Sword of Hearth and Home because they don't synergize well with the deck. I used to run Giant's Amulet but all the protection makes the colored equipment much worse. Mask off avacyn is probably a better fit for this deck over Greaves for sure.

Yeah, those rocks set me back so so much, they were originally in a Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain deck, but that deck was so unfun to play against that I had to power it down and all those rocks needed a new home. And I do have a sensei's Divining Top in the list already, it's great for setting up the top of the library for Galea

Great I could help. Oh, I missed Top in the list, you're right.

hey seshiro_of_the_orochi check out my galea list and let me know what you think. https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/third-times-the-charm-copy/

Also how do you feel about 34 lands? your curve is super small so its probably great. I'm nervous about 35 on my list but I am running a different ramp package and my curve is a bit higher.

meatymeatmagic I usually run a very lean mana base. With the majority of the colored pips in my deck being white, I tend to favor dual lands that produce white and either green or blue. Heavy emphasis on as few tapped lands as possible also helps. Sword of the Animist and Sword of Hearth and Home are really great too. Combine that with Scroll Rack and Sylvan Library I can easily find a land each turn. Surprisingly Land Tax is really good too.

Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx seems not very usefull with all the colorless artefacts. I although recommend Rhystic Study and Soothsaying, as well as Song of the Dryads and/or Imprisoned in the Moon
